| Phalaborwa is a town known to have two summers,
pleasant outdoor living, and lush parks and gardens. Winters are dry and mild. The town is
neatly laid out with pedestrian walkways and shopping malls, modern banking facilities and
several major chain stores. Below the Drakensberg Escarpment, with its "Panoramic
Route", lies the Lowveld Region which is shared by two of South Africa's provinces.
Phalaborwa is in the Northern Province. The Phalaborwa area also includes the tourist
region known as the "Valley of the Elephants". Several major attractions include
places such as the famous Blyde River Canyon and the historical Pilgrim's Rest, all within
easy reach.
The region offers numerous superb wildlife attractions in a unique constellation of
protected and natural resource areas.
Phalaborwa is the true gateway to game and golf and the town is adjacent to the
world-famous Kruger National Park. One of Kruger Park's main entrance gates, Phalaborwa
Gate, is only 4 km from the CBD.
The Hans Merensky Country Club, which also borders Kruger Park, is amongst the finest
and most unique country clubs in southern Africa. The 18-hole championship golf course
extends over 110 ha (270 acres) and the beauty of this golf course is frequently enhanced
by the presence of wildlife.
Between the town and the Kruger Park boundary lies the town's regional airport. Daily
scheduled flights with one of the country's leading local airlines provides a direct link
to Johannesburg International Airport.
Phalaborwa also supports a mining industry which mines the rich copper and phosphate
deposits. Numerous early Iron Age findings in the region prove that earlier inhabitants
already utilised the mineral wealth. In earlier times the present Phalaborwa was named
Pala Bora - meaning "Better than the South". The new Phalaborwa Spatial
Development Initiative involves the town directly and is aimed at unlocking economic
development potential, which includes tourism.
The home is close to the regional airport and barely 5 km from the Kruger Park's entry
gate. |
